Air Traffic Controller

This position is responsible for preventing collisions between aircraft by organizing and expediting the flow of air traffic.

Major duties include:

• Providing for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic.
• Originating, delivering, and relaying clearances authorizing the movement of aircraft, vehicles, and personnel on the airport; coordinating with other air traffic control agencies to ensure the safe movement of aircraft; relaying all movement information of aircraft.
• Issuing air traffic advisories to alert pilots to traffic and obstacles.
• Contacting local law enforcement and airport security in the event of an emergency.
• Providing weather updates and hourly reports; monitoring ASOS.
• Monitoring all electronic aids to navigation, including runway lighting, taxiway lighting, approach lighting, wind instruments, clocks, altimeters, ASOS monitors, and the Dictaphone panel.
• Performing the duties of the Controller in Charge (CIC).
• Participating in supplemental training.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge required by the position includes:

• Knowledge of the FAA handbook.
• Knowledge of air traffic control techniques.
• Knowledge of aircraft performance.
• Knowledge of airport configurations.
• Skill in problem solving and decision making.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Thorough knowledge of FAA Handbook 7110.65.
• Must possess a previous facility rating.
• Possess Air Traffic Control Tower (CTO) Certificate.
• Possess METAR Certification.
• Possess FAA Class II Medical Certification.

Salary per hour $36.58, plus a generous benefit package including:

• Bi-weekly pay periods.
• Thirteen paid holidays per year.
• 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
• 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
• 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
• City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
• City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
• Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee's expense.
• Optional vision insurance purchased at employee's expense.
• Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

• Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $49.41 hourly.
